Our Calls to Protect Public Land Are Working—Let’s Keep It Up!

Senator Mike Lee of Utah proposed a plan to sell off millions of acres of public land. The idea has drawn bipartisan pushback—and now, a big procedural roadblock has slowed it down. The Senate Parliamentarian has ruled that the land sale provision violates the rules governing what can be included in a budget reconciliation bill, which is protected from filibuster.

That’s great news, but the fight isn’t over. It’s still critical to contact both your Senators and your Representative and tell them to oppose this reckless attempt to privatize our public lands.

Our National Parks, Wilderness Areas, and National Monuments depend on surrounding lands—managed by the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management—for healthy, sustainable ecosystems. These are also the places you turn to when you want to get outside, away from crowds and into real backcountry. And they’re exactly the lands on the chopping block.

Land around Mount Shasta (seen above) is among the areas targeted by this short-sighted proposal.

Call your Senators and Representative today at the Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121. Or better yet, look up their local offices and make your voice heard.

Tell them: Protect Our Public Lands.
