She Sends, Rivian, and Why We Ride

It’s no secret that we’re a cycling family. One of the reasons we held off on getting an electric vehicle before our R1T was because we were waiting for a pickup truck that could handle the job of being our ultimate mountain bike adventure vehicle. Our daughter was the first in the family to pick up the sport—nearly a decade ago, she had a school friend who joined the local team, so she decided to give it a try. Now, years later, our son is in his fourth season of racing, and I’m the team manager for the San Francisco Composite Mountain Bike Team.

Early in our daughter’s racing career, we learned about a young woman who had come up through the same league and had gone pro. That rider was Kate Courtney, and in 2018, she became the Women’s UCI Mountain Bike World Champion. Our daughter once had the chance to join her for an all-girls ride near the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in Fairfax, and our son proudly waited in line to get an autographed poster—which still hangs in his room today. Kate has always been an advocate for young riders, particularly when it comes to increasing participation among women and girls.

This year, Kate launched her own race team, She Sends, to support and raise awareness for her nonprofit, the She Sends Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to "connect, support, and inspire women and girls through mountain biking", something we wholeheartedly support after seeing firsthand the impact the sport has had on our daughter’s life.

It’s also a mission that Rivian supports. They recently announced their sponsorship of Kate Courtney and She Sends, a partnership that makes perfect sense. The R1T is an ideal mountain bike adventure vehicle, and Kate’s work aligns seamlessly with Rivian’s ethos and leadership values.

That’s one of the reasons we love making adventure gear for Rivian trucks. Rivian isn’t just building capable EVs—it’s fostering a community of people who believe in doing good, pushing boundaries, and exploring the world in a more sustainable way. We’re proud to be part of that community and to support adventures—on two wheels or four—wherever they may lead.
