There are other EV Trucks out there now, and we still love our R1T
Our R1T is at the Service Center. We had a few little squeaks and creaks for them to look into. And though our OG tonneau cover still works, we’re scheduled to get the new one installed at this visit. Unfortunately, the Service Center was all out of loaner trucks. Instead, they provided us with this Silverado WT (work truck). While disappointed that we won’t have a Rivian for a little while, we were super curious about this electric truck.
The biggest takeaway is that it is… big. The R1T is a bit bigger than our old 2009 Tacoma. And this Chevy is a lot bigger than our R1T. There is no chance that it could fit in our garage. But it’s also big in other ways. It has an enormous battery pack that pushes its estimated range over 400 miles on a single charge. It’s not the vehicle for us, but we’re sure it will fulfill the use case for many folks (who don’t have squeezy city parking constraints).
Getting a close-up look at other EVs is great for Matthew’s product development efforts. We want to help power people’s electric camping adventures no matter which EV they drive. I’ve written before about future products for the Rivian that Matthew’s been noodling on. Those products are mostly solving problems we encounter while using our R1T. Creating thoughtful products for other EVs is more challenging.
As much as possible, Matthew likes to create products that adhere to the concepts of universal design. That’s one reason that our kitchen folds open instead of up to create a work height accessible to more users. It is also why each module of our kitchens attaches separately, ensuring that each piece is light enough to be moved by one person and by most people. Now, we’re working on some products that are designed to be universally compatible with most EVs. Matthew is extremely careful and deliberate with all of his designs (you should see the prototype graveyard!), so once we’ve listed a product on the website, you’ll know it’s fully baked.
We're also partnering with folks like Jimmy from Fruble to bring other folks' great products to you.
We can’t wait to share them with you!
